Which kind of fence is best for you?
There are so many choices available.......so which choice is best for you?
With so much range on the market it is sometimes difficult to decide on what sort of fence is best for your garden. There are a lot of factors to consider; how much sun and wind exposure it gets, the slant of your garden and your preferred style of fencing.
You can choose different materials, as well as different finishes, and it pays to choose one that suits your garden. Obviously price is also an important factor to consider. With so many contributing factors to think about, we are more than happy to advise you on your options.
Here are some of our popular choices of timber species for your fence, with a few details about each one:
Tanalised treated timber:
Tanalised timber has been impregnated with a preservative solution under high vacuum pressure in an industrial vessel. It provides the ultimate long-term protection from weathering because the treatment is pressured all the way through the wood.
Western Red Cedar:
This durable wood is naturally resistant to rot, decay and insect attacks which means that it will last longer and require less maintenance than other choices. It’s also pitch and resin-free which means it accepts stains and colours better than other timbers. This is the best choice for someone who has a definite colour theme or style in mind. It also comes in a range of surface textures (such as planed or rough sawn) and profiles.
Siberian Larch is one of the best coniferous woods around, it has qualities that make it ideal for outside use. It is a high density wood which is highly durable and extra resistant against rot and fungus. If your garden has to face a lot of elements (especially wind during wet weather) then this is a great choice.
Once you have chosen the timber type then you need to consider the style and look of the fence that you would like. These are some of the choices available:-
From simple to the decorative, a range of manufactured fence panels are available in various sizes, from the UK’s most popular choice, larch lap panels, through to featheredge and more decorative styles.
Using traditional featheredge fencing boards which come in a range of lengths that can be adapted to create your desired style. They come pre-treated to protect against the weather and insect attack, as do the fence posts, capping and gravel boards that we supply.
Traditional Post and Rail:
Post and rail is a traditional fencing system which is used when you want to keep an open aspect to your boundary. Treated timber posts and rails are used for this, we also stock post mix, Met posts plus all the tools and fixings required for the job.
When choosing a fence, you should try to consider the wear and tear it will experience. Although the cheaper option may be appealing initially, it helps to consider any maintenance costs that this kind of fence will incur.
You’re much better off going for quality at the beginning but, we’ll always let you know all of your options.
