Van Deck Replacement

Flat bed vans get a lot of wear and tear to the deck which is also exposed to the vagaries of the British weather and muck, grime and salt from the roads.

The bed on our Mercedes Sprinter van recently failed, unsurprisingly after the amount of use that it has had over the past few years. We therefore decided to replace the deck using 18mm thick phenolic plywood with mesh on one side.

Phenolic plywood is a type of engineered wood product. It consists of layers of wood veneer bonded together with phenolic resin, which is a synthetic plastic resin which gives it durability and moisture resistance. Typically it is made made from veneers, the outer layers of which are impregnated with phenolic resin. It is known for its high strength, stability, and resistance to moisture, chemicals, and wear.

The repair was carried out by our skilled staff who removed the damaged deck, then cut the phenolic ply sheets to the required size using our panel saw, drilled the appropriate holes and fixed to the van frame using hex coach bolts. As the phenolic ply has mesh on one side it reduces the risk of slips when on the van deck by introducing the anti-slip surface.

Finally, the cut boards were end grain sealed around the edges to prevent any water ingress and the job was complete. A grand job as you will see from the photos.
